He waits at the door hoping for that one day when he will again be allowed outside.

Give it up, Hobbes.

It has been 3 years.

Why is he not allowed to go out?

They NEVER forget. Even if they’ve only been outside one time, by accident, when the doors blew open in the middle of the night (bad storm), the taste never leaves their memory.

Carsten~ He used to be an outside hunting cat, but when we moved the neighborhood just isn’t safe for that. I wish I could make all his dreams come true and allow him some freedom, but for his safety I must squelch the dream.

      I understand. Sorry for him.
We have a ’second hand’ cat. He used to live indoor, but with us he can come out as often as he can manage us to open doors or windows for him.

Aren’t all cats secretly planning their escape from human captivity? :) I know mine does.
